- Naga Panchami is a Hindu festival celebrated predominantly in India. This festival is dedicated to the worship of snakes or serpents, particularly the Cobra. In Hindu mythology, snakes hold significant symbolism and are revered as divine creatures. They are associated with various deities like Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu, and others.
- On Naga Panchami, devotees offer prayers, milk, sweets, flowers, and occasionally live rats or mice to snake idols or images in temples, or even to living cobras in some regions. People also draw snake images on walls and floors with a mixture of rice flour, vermillion, and turmeric as a form of worship.
- The festival holds cultural and social significance, symbolizing the respect and reverence towards nature and all living beings. It’s also believed that worshipping snakes on this day helps protect against snake bites and brings blessings and prosperity to the devotees.
